Summary: Let me start off my saying for the fall (according to his site) this book is free so go get it!!! (Links down below) In this novel, John recounts several relationships that he has had with women that has shaped his outlook on how he views life. Also, he talks about his various jobs/careers he has had through his life to make ends meet during this time. John worked at several jobs, before he found his passion for teaching. He was also in a rock band. Throughout his life John has always tried to find the one. For awhile in the novel it seemed he went from broken relationship to broken relationship. Until, he had gotten in one so bad it almost seemed to destroy him. He ended up with an emotionally abusive women, but he tried to make it work for the sake of their child. This is a story about love, loss, and well life.
Review: Honestly, I liked this book. I'm not usually into this type of book. It felt like I was having a conversation with him. The writing style was pretty laid back. It did take me awhile to read it, just because it is a pretty heavy book (emotionally). It not really one of those books you rush through. It takes some time to process things, and really understand them. In the end, I was happy that he finally pulled it together. He definitely had a long journey, and not an easy one.This book dealt with spousal abuse from a male's perspective. It is rare to actually hear from a male perspective who was abused by his spouse, whether it be mentally or physically. In this case, she was abusing him mentally. It was also interesting to hear his theories on teaching, and how he handled his classes. It was easy to tell he really loved teaching.
