Interview with Author Cherie Colyer
Q:
Do you remember how/when your interest in writing started?
Cherie:
I’d
always enjoyed creative writing when I was in school. As I got older, I’d think
up different stories that I’d often tell my husband about. He’d get into them,
throwing out ideas and adding to the different plots. One day he said, you should write one of your stories. I
did. It wasn’t Embrace, but I still
love that first story and the characters.
Q:
What were the challenges (research, psychological, and logistical) in bringing
this series or characters to life?
Cherie: The biggest challenge was making
sure the rules of my world were clear and consistent. To bring the unknown to
life I researched witchcraft, faeries, and other supernatural creatures to find
the ones that would fit best in my world. Then I bent what was known or
believed to make it my own. Thankfully, I have wonderful critique partners who
helped me know what worked and what needed further explanation and an amazing
editor with an eye for detail.
Q: What was the easiest part of
writing HOLD TIGHT?
Cherie:
Being back with Madison and her friends. It was like coming home after a long
vacation.
Q: What is your favorite scene or
was your favorite to write? Don’t forget to tell us why.
Cherie:
This is a hard one. I really did have a lot of fun being back with the gang.
I’d have to say my favorite scene to write was the scene where Isaac and
Madison finally crack the code that allows them to take their relationship
further. I enjoyed being able to write the romance of it all. My favorite scene would totally be a spoiler,
but a close second is the battle at the end of the book. Madison’s powers are
stronger. She’s stronger. Plus Josh is in that scene. He’s such a great character.
He’s an amazing friend to Madison, a sweet and loving boyfriend to Kaylee. And
in Hold Tight you get to see more of
him and what he can do with his powers.
Q: What’s next for you writing wise
that you can share with us?
Cherie: I
just finished revising my young adult thriller, Challenging Destiny which is about a brother and sister who
must outsmart supernatural beings if they hope
to remain human and avoid being pawns in a coming war. I hope to find
it a home soon.
