Book Description:
How far would you go to escape your own personal teenage hell? Would you run away, break away from everything you know—even your own body?

Alex Robbins, Brooke Saunders and Maryanne Hemlock could not be more different, yet they all have something in common—deep and soul-searing pain. They are also all students at Streep Academy, a boarding school just one step away from juvie, where they've come to complete high school. The three have been relegated to Harvell House, the residence reserved for the hardest cases, the so-called Rejects from Reject Row.

In the forbidden attic of the old Victorian house-turned-residence, the girls discover the diary of Connie Harvell, a young woman who was confined and abused there some 50 years ago. In the end, Connie’s attic prison couldn't hold her—not completely. She found a way out. At least a dark part of her did. And after reading her diary, the girls discover they can escape at will too. A terrifying, thrilling flight from their bodies and their troubles.

But God help them, their pain isn't all they leave behind when they join with the night.

And God help anyone who’s wronged them...

10 Facts about Comes the Night:
1. Comes the Night is the first book in a 4-part series, and is set in the fictional border town of Mansbridge, New Brunswick, Canada.
2.Our girls are thrown together by circumstance. For various reasons, they can’t “do” home right now and are roommates at Harvell House (aka Reject Row), the residence at Streep Academy reserved for the toughest cases.
4. Alex Robbins burned her way through every private and public school in Halifax before finding herself at Streep Academy. Her hard-assed scene exterior masks both a brilliant mind and a troubled soul.
5. Maryanne Hemlock actually chooses to attend Streep. She’s trying to escape a crushing guilt, but it’s followed her all the way to Harvell House.
6. Sophisticated and sexy Brooke Saunders is there to escape her new step-father and his rules, and to piss off her mother. While she shows a confidence to the world, there is a heart-breaking loneliness to Brooke that is almost palpable.
7. It turns out that Harvell House has a dark history, which the girls discover when they find the diary of a long-dead teenage girl who was confined there decades ago.
8. The stained glass window in the attic of Harvell House with the image of a compassionate Madonna and child is more than a balm to the girls’ souls; it is an actual portal that allows a dark part of themselves to cast out into the night.
9. When the girls “cast out”, they leave behind their mute and paralyzed bodies. But that’s not all they leave behind. When that dark part of themselves is out there in the night, they leave behind much of their inhibition, guilt and fear.
10. While the girls call themselves ‘casters’, the superstitious town of Mansbridge has another name for them: ‘Hellers’.
11. The Heller legend reaches back decades, arising from Connie Harvell’s night time flights. As the new casters soar, so do the rumors, and thus rise the hunters.
About the Authors:

HEATHER DOHERTY fell in love with writing while taking creative writing courses with Athabasca University. Motivated by her university success, and a life-long dream of becoming a novelist, she later enrolled in the Humber School for Writers under the mentorship of David Adams Richards. Her first literary novel was published in 2006. While still writing dark literary (as well as not-so-dark children's lit), she is beyond thrilled to be writing paranormal/horror with Norah. Heather lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick with her family. (No pets, but I swear Norah's dog, Chloe, calls me Aunt Heather).

Together, Heather and Norah write dark, edgy, frightening young adult paranormal/horror.
