Extras by Scott Westerfield

Back Story: For those who have not read the Uglies series; I will back track a little bit. I love, love, love this series. Did I mention I love it? lol This takes place in the future, after our current society has destroyed itself due to an implant in the gasoline that blew up most of the civilization. In this future society, everyone under the age of 16 lives in their own little town. They are known as Uglies, because they don't get the surgery to be "pretty" until they turn 16. Then, they get to move across the bridge into the Pretty's town. Things are not as idyll as they seem. Tally Youngblood has to learn how to free everyone from an oppressive trap with a help of a few new friends.

Summary: Extras features Aya, she is 15 but this is after the time of bubbleheadedness. In her town, they use a 'fame' currency. The more people that know about you, the more your rank goes up. The more your rank goes up, the more special privileges you get. At the start she is known as an Extra, her ranking is 451,396 out of a million. She is virtually a no-one. She is a kicker, so what she does is film interesting things, and put them on the city feed hoping to get up in popularity.

While searching for a story she finds a group known as the sly girls, and they might be just the story she needs. They do dangerous stunts and no one knows that they even exist. She hopes to film these stunts and get people talking about her. So she has to go undercover, and penetrate their group. It's not before long she runs into trouble, and realizes there might be things lurking outside the city that could kill everyone. With the help of her brother, his best friend, and a newly formed crush; she has to set out and figure out what is really going on.

Of course, some of our favorite cutters do make an appearance, and we get to learn  more of their what happened after Specials story.

Review: Honestly, Aya was pretty cool, and interesting but she was not as awesome as Tally. Although, I guess Tally had 3 books to get into our hearts. Aya was pretty much a typical 15 year old still learning to make her way into society. The plot was pretty fast paced. Aya did grow at the end of the story, you don't get to see it too much until the last page. Tally makes the perfect entrance into the book. I wanted to cheer out loud (yes, I am a nerd), I did laugh at the entrance she made. I love that I get to find out what happened to Tally and David. I hope I'm not spoiling anything too much. I honestly loved this book. Reading this made me want to read the series all over again, since its been awhile since I have read it.

  3. I loved this series too! It's been a while since I read it, but I missed it so much! I loved the concept and the characters. I love your review! I agree that I missed Tally in this one! I had grown to love her too, and then this new character was thrown at us and I had to do some adjusting!

    1. Yeah, maybe if there was going to be more books with Aya I could have grown to like her more as a character, but we didn't get to see too much growth until the last page in my opinion. When she realized maybe she should let people have their privacy. Thanks for following :) I have followed your blog back!
